El Sol, a collaboration with Swarovski for Design Miami

Created as an homage to Buckminster Fuller, Fernando Romero designed El Sol, a spherical replica of the sun, built to scale, albeit one billion times smaller than the star at the center of our solar system. Made of 2,880 Swarovski crystals, El Sol also contains a sphere of LEDs that change color in response to a video stream of the sun provided by NASA. El Sol will be on display during Design Miami/, and will permanently reside in Swarovski’s collection.
